As the seasons change and temperatures fluctuate, we receive a lot of questions about sleeping bags. Whether you're bracing for the cold or enjoying sunny days, we've got the lowdown to ensure your baby sleeps comfortably. Find out which sleeping bag works best in each season, top brands to consider, and key factors to keep in mind.
SUMMER
Khasto
Founded in the 80s, Khasto is an Indian-Dutch family business. The company is known for its distinctive soft cotton bedding and nightwear, also referred to as 'cotton cashmere'. This sleeveless sleeping bag by Khasto consists of three thin layers of breathable, organic cotton (voile). Perfect for those hot summer nights, with a room temperature of approximately 21-24°C.
Engel Natur
What's not to love about the timeless items by Engel Natur? This 85-year-old German family business creates sustainable essentials of the highest quality. Their fabrics are natural, soft, and completely safe for sensitive skin, which is why this brand is definitely one of our favorites. This 100% organic merino wool sleeping bag has a TOG value of 0.75, which makes it ideal for a room temperature of approximately 20-22°C.
SPRING/FALL
TOTHEMOON ☾
With a TOG value of 1.5, our quilted sleeping bag is great for temperatures between 18 and 20°C, though it works just as well during cooler nights. Thanks to the sleeveless and roomy design, it can easily be worn with a sleep suit or body underneath, allowing your baby to move freely while staying snug. The cotton ensures a soft, comfy, and breathable feel, regardless of season. And last but not least, you can safely put it in the washer and dryer!
Lilano
Another German super star: sustainable kidswear brand Lilano sticks to non-contaminated, chemical-free materials, and is known for their careful and meticulous production. The brand does not work with TOG values, but we estimate their wool-silk sleeping bag to be approximately in between 1.5 and 2. This makes it suitable for room temperatures of approximately 18-20°C. The sleeping bag is made with 70% merino wool and 30% silk, and is slightly thinner than the one made of 100% wool.
A sleeping bag that feels like a comforter, what's not to love? Thanks to its quilted filling and silky cotton exterior, our long-sleeved sleeping bag truly is the softest you'll ever feel. It performs in a variety of temperatures — with or without pajamas underneath — though we find it especially lovely during wintertime. Like our sleeveless sleeping bag, it has a roomy fit and is machine washable.

- These guidelines are meant for babies that are stable and can maintain their own body temperature;
- They are guidelines: every child, but also every bedroom is different. It is important to keep checking carefully: feel your baby's neck and feet to make sure the skin does not feel clammy, cold, or too warm;
- Under the sleeping bag, you can put on a (long-sleeved) body or a full pair of pajamas for the colder nights;
- The bed should be made according to the guidelines that apply for safe sleeping.
